๐Ÿงฆ Christmas Stocking Fillers Under $25 (Singapore)

Small gifts that survive past Boxing Day. Sorted by who you're buying for, with the ones that quietly get thrown away listed too.

The CandyFlossCuteness Team4 min read

A stocking is a strange gift format: five small things, bought in a hurry, half of them gone by New Year.

It does not have to be. The filter is simple.

Will this still be in use in February?

Apply that and the pile gets smaller, cheaper and better.

Stocking fillers for younger children (3 to 8)

Stickers. Reliably the biggest return per dollar. Our sticker pack is $12.90 and ends up on water bottles, notebooks and, inevitably, furniture.

A colouring book, with the pencils. The pencils are the part people forget. The ASMR Colouring Book is $19.90 and has 26 Singapore scenes; each page also has a message panel to tear out and give to someone.

Hair clips, bands, or socks they would choose. Boring to buy, used constantly.

A torch. Small, cheap, and children love them. Also genuinely useful for a child who is scared of the dark โ€” a torch they control changes how bedtime feels.

Bath crayons or bubbles. Short-lived, but used happily while they last.

One small soft thing. Not a pile of them. A single comfort object matters more than four: children choose their own, and the one they pick becomes the one that gets carried everywhere.

Snacks they do not normally get.

For older children and teens (9 to 16)

Good snacks. Still the most reliable gift in this age group.

Phone and desk bits. A charging cable that is the right length, a phone stand, earbud case, a pop socket.

A decent water bottle, or a laptop sticker set.

Skincare basics they already use. Replacing something they have run out of, rather than introducing a product that implies their face needs fixing.

Affirmation cards, if they are not too cool for it. Pocket of Kindness is $24.90 for 60 cards. Plenty of older kids keep a few by the bed and ignore the rest, which is exactly how they are meant to be used. Our list of affirmations that do not sound cringe covers the wording that survives the eye-roll.

A gift card. Teenagers are the group most likely to want to choose for themselves. Ours never expires and is emailed instantly.

For adults

Something consumable they like and would not buy twice. Good coffee, nice chocolate, a tin of biscuits.

Unscented hand cream or lip balm. Office air-conditioning.

A nice pen, or a small notebook.

Something soft. More adults keep a comfort object than admit it: around a third. Our Winky and Pinky charms are $25.90 and send a fresh kind message each day when tapped with a phone, which is a quiet thing to look forward to in a hard month.

Earplugs or a sleep mask. Unromantic and frequently the most-used gift in the stocking.

The ones that get thrown away

  • Tiny plastic toys. Broken or lost by Boxing Day.
  • Novelty items with one joke. The joke lands once.
  • Anything needing batteries that are not included.
  • Scented candles and strong perfume. Too personal a guess.
  • Sweets in volume, when a child already has a Christmas haul arriving.
  • Anything that comments on an adult's body. Diet teas, "slimming" anything, shapewear.

A structure that works

If you want a formula rather than a list:

SlotExample
Something to eatGood chocolate, a snack they like
Something to doColouring book, cards, a puzzle
Something to wearSocks, hair clips, a cap
Something soft or comfortingA small plushie, a cosy pair of socks
Something tiny and sillyA torch, a sticker sheet, a bouncy ball

Three to six items total. Resist filling the stocking to the top: the pile stops feeling special once it is big enough to be a second present.

If this is a hard Christmas

A stocking is also a reasonable way to look after someone quietly. For a child whose year has been difficult, or an adult who is dreading the holidays, small comforting things in a stocking carry less pressure than one big gift that has to be reacted to. Our guides on why December is hard and gifts for someone going through a hard time go into this properly.

Ordering in time

Small gifts are the ones most often left to the last week. If you are ordering online, allow for delivery: with us, delivery within Singapore takes 2 to 4 business days, orders before 2pm are dispatched the same day, and the last order date for Christmas delivery in Singapore is 18 December. Gift cards are emailed instantly for anything later than that. Our Christmas gift guide has everything in one place.

The short version

Five small useful things beat ten tiny breakable ones. Consumable, practical, or soft. Skip the novelty, the scents and anything about someone's body. And ask the February question before you buy.

Common questions

What are good stocking fillers under $25?
Small things that get used daily or eaten: stickers, a colouring book, affirmation cards, good snacks, hair ties and clips, a nice pen, a torch, socks that someone would actually choose. The test is whether it will still be in use in February.
How many things go in a Christmas stocking?
Three to six is plenty. A common structure is something to eat, something to do, something to wear and something small and silly. More than that and the pile stops being special.
What stocking fillers should I avoid?
Tiny plastic toys that break the same day, anything needing batteries you do not have, novelty items with one joke in them, and sweets in volume if the child already has a Christmas haul coming.
What is a good stocking filler for a teenager?
Consumables and practical things they would not buy themselves: good snacks, phone accessories, a decent water bottle, skincare basics they already use, or a gift card. Avoid anything that implies they should change.
