โฐ Last-Minute Christmas Gifts in Singapore: What Still Arrives in Time
It's the middle of December and you haven't bought anything. Here's what still makes it, what to stop considering, and the gifts that arrive instantly.
It is 19 December, you have bought nothing, and every list you open is full of things that take two weeks to arrive.
Here is the honest version: what still makes it, what to stop looking at, and how to make something quick not look quick.
Work backwards from the dates
Before choosing anything, decide which delivery window you are actually in. Ours, as an example:
| Option | Time | Order by |
|---|---|---|
| Within Singapore | 2 to 4 business days | 18 December |
| Same-day dispatch | Orders before 2pm SGT go out that day | โ |
| International | 7 to 14 business days | End of November |
| Gift card | Emailed instantly | Any time, including Christmas morning |
Other shops differ, and courier networks are at their slowest in the week before Christmas, so treat any stated window as the best case rather than a promise. The full details for us are on our shipping page and Christmas gift guide.
Gifts that arrive instantly
An emailed gift card. The one genuinely instant option. Ours never expires, is emailed straight away, and lets the person choose their own thing, which matters more than it sounds for comfort objects: the one someone picks is the one that gets used.
A booked experience. A class, a meal, a day out. Book it, print the confirmation, write the date in the card. A plan is a real gift, especially for someone who has everything.
A subscription or credit they already use, topped up.
A letter. Free, instant, and the gift people keep for years. Three specific things about the person and what they did this year. If you are stuck on wording, our guide on what to say to someone who is struggling is useful for the hard cases.
A donation in their name, to something they care about.
Still buyable in person
If you can get to a shop, you widen the field considerably:
- Consumables. Good chocolate, coffee beans, a tin of biscuits, fruit.
- A plant, hardy and in a decent pot.
- A book, if you have heard them mention the subject.
- Something soft. A comfort object does not have to be for a child: around a third of adults keep one.
- Socks, stationery, a water bottle, a tote. Unexciting and genuinely used.
What to stop considering
- Anything personalised or custom. The whole point is a production step you no longer have time for.
- Anything shipping from overseas. International delivery runs 7 to 14 business days at the best of times, and December is not the best of times.
- Anything needing assembly. You will end up doing it on Christmas Eve.
- Paying to rush the wrong gift. Getting something there faster does not make it something they want.
- Fresh flowers for a date you cannot control. They either arrive early and die or arrive late.
How to make a rushed gift not look rushed
The gift is rarely what makes something feel thoughtful. The note is.
- Write three specific lines. Not "hope you have a great Christmas" but "thank you for picking the kids up every Thursday this year, it saved me more than you know".
- Give it in person if you can. Handing something over beats a parcel on a doorstep.
- Say what the gift card is for. "This is for those shoes you keep looking at" turns a voucher into a plan.
- Do not apologise for it. Opening with "sorry, I left it late" tells them something they had not noticed and makes the gift smaller than it is.
If you are buying for someone having a hard Christmas
Late is not the problem for this person; pressure is. Something that asks nothing back is better than something impressive. A comfort object, a care package of small easy things, a meal dropped off, or a note that says no reply is needed. We have proper guides on gifts for someone going through a hard time, how to build a care package, and why December itself is hard for a lot of people.
Next year, in one line
Order by the first week of December, or put a reminder in your calendar for 1 November. Seasonal gifts bought in a rush cost more and land worse, every time.
The short version
Check the real cut-off date first, then choose from what fits the window: emailed gift card, booked experience, something consumable bought in person, or a letter. Skip custom, overseas and assembly. Write three specific lines. And do not apologise for the timing.
