A Day in Candyfloss Land

Fifty-five fluffs, one day, and a path that had to be lit by dark

In Candyfloss Land, every fluff is spun at the Great Candyfloss Wheel, out of a cloud.

That is where they all come from โ€” the happy ones and the cross ones, the ones who bounce and the ones who worry, every single one. A cloud comes down, the Wheel turns, and out comes somebody new with a feeling of their own to look after.

But a Wheel with no cloud has nothing to spin. And all that season, the Wheel had stood still.

So Rainbow, who is the chief of Candyfloss Land, had gone over the far side of the world to ask the sky for another one. He had been gone since the spring.

This is the story of the day he came home. It is a day with fifty-five fluffs in it, all of them busy, most of them nowhere near each other, and not one of them able to see the whole thing.

About the book

What is A Day in Candyfloss Land?
One long story that follows all fifty-five fluffs through a single day. Each one has their own thread with its own ending, they keep crossing each other's paths, and by nightfall every thread has met at the same party.
Do I have to read it all at once?
No. It is in six parts, roughly one part of the day each, and every fluff's thread works on its own. A part takes about ten minutes to read aloud, which is about right for one bedtime.
What age is it for?
Roughly 4 to 9, the same as the feeling stories. Younger children enjoy a thread or two read aloud; readers of about seven upwards can work through a part at a time.
Does it spoil the shorter stories?
Not at all โ€” it is a different day. Every fluff already has a short story of their own about their feeling. This book is about what those feelings do when fifty-five of them are in the same place, all busy, all needed.
